    General Position Summary

    The Deputy Director, RM&E is responsible for designing and leading the efforts to make Last Mile Health a more data-driven organization. This is accomplished by setting the overall vision for program monitoring, coordinating the implementation of research activities, managing and building the capacity of RM&E field staff, and overseeing technical support to the Liberia Ministry of Health to design, refine, and implement systems to capture and use data from over 4,000 community health workers.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Monitoring Strategic Vision: Ensure the successful collection of routine programmatic data, mobile health data, and special data collection for program, grant, and government reports. Provide technical expertise and coordination for county RM&E teams to do routine data collection, entry and analysis.
    • Team management: Directly manage four staff members, including the Data Reporting Manager, Data Systems Design Manager, National Policy Manager, and Qualitative Research Officer. Oversee budget management and operations for team and provide day-to-day troubleshooting of field issues. Lead capacity-building efforts for staff members.
    • Research and Evaluation: Coordinate data collection and survey efforts related to research and evaluation projects, contribute towards reports of findings, and disseminate results among internal team members and the Liberia Ministry of Health.
    • Learning: Support the MEL Director to support organization-wide learning efforts to ensure that data is being used to drive decision-making and enable institutional knowledge retention across departments.
    • Ministry of Health: Provide government partners with technical assistance to plan, design, and inform deployment of robust systems needed for the monitoring and evaluation of Liberia's 4,000 community health workers.


    • Graduate degree in a relevant field (such as public health) preferred
    • Bachelor's degree considered for outstanding candidates
    • At least three years of professional experience conducting research and/or M&E activities in a global health context
    • At least two years of professional experience managing staff and/or teams
    • Knowledge of and experience with quantitative methods in public health research and/or M&E
    • Strong analytic and quantitative thinking abilities
    • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. MySQL, Access) preferred
    • Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite, and workflow tools (e.g. Trello, Gmail, Google Calendars, Google Drive)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
    • Eagerness to learn new analytical techniques and work with complicated datasets produced within challenging, real-world conditions
    • Prior experience in a remote setting, willingness to travel to highly-remote program sites as needed
    • High level of initiative to innovate and lead in resource-limited settings
